Eight northeast Ohio land-preservation groups have merged into one regional entity that, as of January 1, 2006, began doing business as Western Reserve Land Conservancy (WRLC).

The Chagrin River Land Conservancy, is the largest of the merging groups and the other members include the Bratenahl Land Conservancy, Firelands Land Conservancy, Headwaters Land Trust, Hudson Land Conservancy, Medina Summit Land Conservancy, Portage Land Association for Conservation and Education (PLACE), and Tinkers Creek Land Conservancy.

The WRLC aims to protect forests, farms, wetlands and other natural areas in a 14-county area stretching from Ashtabula, Trumbull and Mahoning counties in the east, to Erie and Huron counties in the west, and also includes the counties of Geauga, Portage, Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Summit, Stark, and Wayne.

Geauga Park District [ View ]

We are currently seeking ways to increase involvement to maintain protection of Ohio's Brook Trout habitat by partnering with Geauga Park District in their upcoming efforts to increase stream stockings and create educational opportunities for young people to study these magnificent wild and native trout. ODNR's project to stock Brook Trout in local streams has ended, but the Geauga Park District along with several other organizations is working to continue this initiative.

County Soil and Water Conservation Districts provide local leadership and technical assistance in the promotion of innovative programs to conserve soil, improve water quality and enhance and protect natural resources by providing conservation, technical, educational, and financial assistance to meet the needs of the people of the county.
